Meet Ethan Kempton – CHEMPI’s New Theme Child

2014-2015 Theme ChildEthan Kempton

The theme child for CHEMPI this year is seven year old Ethan Kempton. Ethan is from Temecula, California. He was born two weeks premature due to the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck. If Ethan were to go full term, he would have suffered even more severe brain damage. After a week in Neonatal Intensive care Ethan was able to come home but problems soon arose.

1. Intermittent Ocular Misalignment(crossed eyes)
2. Sensory Processing Disorder
3. Visual Processing Disorder
4. Apraxia of speech
5. Dyspraxia
6. Central Auditory Processing disorder.
7. Low muscle btone.
8. Low Sensory Awareness which made for many years of constant drooling, etc.
9. Possible Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
10. Small and Gross Motor Difficulty.

Local schools didn’t know how to handle him or what to do so Ethan’s needs were largely ignored. Ethan could not hold a pencil, was constantly falling down and tripping over other students. It was not until 2011 when Ethan’s parents were referred to the CHEA Major Project and Occupational Therapist Mavis Johnson.  Ethan’s life began to dramatically take a turn for the better.  Mom and Dad were scrambling to afford private speech therapy to address his severe language and speech delays.  As evidenced by the picture of Ethan on a skateboard and the fact that the family performed a dance routine at the State Convention Ethan is doing much better.  Ethan’s parents never saw anyone work with him as efficiently as Mavis Johnson.  Ethan took to her quickly.  He knew that she loved him and was there to help him. Read more about Ethan Kempton and his family at the  www.chea-elks.org web site.

Here is what your Piggy Bank contributions do.

This is a short video explaining what contributions to the California-Hawaii Elks Association Major Project aka Purple Pig or Piggy Bank actually accomplish.  Pay particular attention to the lady who mentions the service is without government assistance and her praise of community based support from local Elks Lodges….Enjoy and be Proud.

44th Annual Purple Pig Entertainment Rally

To all RVers in the WCCD.

Thanks to Richard Goldner for this information

====================================

Hi, 2011/2012 District PR Chairs and Others,

I know you thought you were through hearing from me, but I promised our Purple Pig Elks Rally committee that I would do my best to promote the big Rally taking pace this Oct in Hemet CA. It is the biggest single fund raising event for the Major Project in the State. We are hoping to get Lodge RV clubs and individual RV’ers from all over CA to attend this year. Please pass on the attached information flyers to Lodges and bulletin Editors within your District.

We have all ready heard from a number of Elks living in Central and Northern CA who are planning to make a vacation out of a trip to So CA and the Hemet Rally. I ask you to use your influence to promote this worthwhile project and encourage your members to join the hundreds of Elks who will be at this year’s fun event.

I hope you are having a good year and I know you are continuing to do your best for Elkdom.

Please see the contact information on the flyer listed in the link shown below.

Thanks,

Andy Costello
