A Donation and An Award

An additional  award and presentation were made during the month of November at the Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge.

An award was presented to Lodge Member Gerry Gillies for his time and efforts helping the local children find more enjoyment in life while riding the Thousand Oaks Elks train. Gerry maintains and drives the train in local parades as well as Elks functions in the Conejo Valley.

For the last few years Heather and Ted Poliskey have organized and coordinated the Mystery Bus Tour that raises money simultaneously for the Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley Elks Lodge Veteran’s Programs. All the participants have a marvelous time visiting undisclosed lodge locations within driving distance and this year was no exception traveling south. Each lodge received 650.00 as indicated by the picture below.

Elks Ladies Halloween Party

Halloween has been a traditional holiday though-out the US for over 100 years (read more about it here) and the BPOE loves to have a reason to have a good time while raising money for any one of a number of charities.

This year the Elks Ladies held a Halloween Party that provided the fun and raised the funds to continue to support many of these activities…

Since a picture is worth 1000 words – we’ll let the images speak for themselves!

Fundraiser for Leukemia and Lymphoma

Honoring Cancer Month, PER, John and Marva D’Ambrogio of Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge #2477 pulled out all the stops with the help of the whole family, daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren as they entered the fray the only way they knew how by providing an authentic Italian 5 course meal to benefit research in the fight against Leukemia and Lymphoma Cancer.

Answering the call were more than 50 members and friends who attended the sit down dinner and raised $1,500 for this worthy charity.

We are responsive

by Jerry Serota

You never know what can be accomplished unless you give it try. Read in the Acorn that Manna needs help with food donations and funds in order to get the most bang for the buck. Dollars buy perishables for those in need.

Being a child of the great depression we know what it is like to skip meals in order to eke out a meager existence. When brought to the attention of our Lodge of their need, the members responded. The first night we ran a 50/50 drawing our new member Brother Tom May won $103. Slowly food parcels started to appear in the crates located in the lounge.

An anonymous donor made a $500 donation. Little or small Manna is most appreciative of our efforts. They even need empty egg cartons. You never know what can be accomplished until you try.

Elks Dictionary Project

On Thursday January 14, 2010 the Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge #2477 donated to all the 3rd graders at the El Descanso Elementary School, in Camarillo, a dictionary for their very own. Making the presentation was Richard Goldner, Grand Lodge Public Relations Chairman. This is the Elks way of taking one giant step toward encouraging literacy in children.

In attendance was Pleasant Valley School Superintendent Luis Villegas, Jr. and Elk mascot Elroy handing out drug awareness literature. There were 4 classes in attendance and approximately 200 children attended.
