New Member May 2011–John La Rhu

July 2, 2011 in Blog, Elks Lodge 2477, new members

Each new member brings a unique perspective and energy to the lodge when they join. They have experiences and goals that fill a void, bolster the lodges presence in the community and help the lodge continue to thrive.

Forgetting to share the excitement of their joining is not an option…it is however, sometimes delayed.

This author missed the post for our new member John La Rhu who joined in May and was sponsored by Sam Frankl. Please be sure to let John know how much we appreciate his presence and Sam’s effort in bringing in a new member.

Sunday, June 11, 2011 the Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge #2477 conducted a Flag Day Ceremony and Flag Retirement Ceremony with 50 members and guests present. A history of our Flag was read and each one was on display from the very first until today including the an MIA Flag.  Brownie Taylor Spira sang the National Anthem.

We then adjourned outside and Exalted ruler retired the first Flag. The Scouts were then encouraged to each retire a Flag.

An ice cream and cookie social was provided and the scouts loved it.

July 1, 2011 in Blog, Donations, elks 2477, elks activities, Elks Ladies

by Jerry Serota

The Butt Stops Here  a Catherine Koeritz and Dave Naccarato production was a very entertainment evening. There were around 50 members and guests who enjoyed the antics of the singers and was especially charmed by Dave Naccarato’s daughter Falon.

Ed Bianchi did the lasagna which was well received. Dave and Catherine put a lot of effort into making it an entertaining show. Robert Jones managed the music as well as sang with Terry Gicking and Dave Naccarato AKA ‘The Highway man’.

Proceeds will go the ladies room remodeling.

National Services Fund Raiser

April 29, 2011 in Blog, charity event, Elks Lodge 2477, Veteran's

by Jerry Serota

Tuesday April 18, 2011 National Services Com. Chairman Carl Lanterman engaged a special speaker, highly decorated Dr. Bill Peters, Marine Corps Retired. As a special fund raiser for his committee, a Chicken dinner was served and attended by members who found Dr. Peters speech both informative and inspiring. He compared our troops of today displaying the same courage and valor as the Viet Nam veterans did under fire.

As a First Lieutenant, he recalled some of his experiences in Viet Nam and gave first hand account of the courage our Marines accomplished as First Force Recon Company going deep in enemy territory to secure vital information on enemy.

April 28, 2011 in Blog, elks activities, Elks Lodge 2477, Veteran's

Among the many activities tonight at the Cal-Vets birthday celebration (including the ever popular karaoke) we will be mounting a new sign in show of the Elks motto “So long as there are veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them”

The sign was commissioned by National Service Committee Chair Carl Lanterman and designed by Public Relations Chair Paul Wagner.
