“Elks 2477 Angels for Mia” came together in spirit on the side of Mia Stoutenborough. From in a hospital somewhere in Maryland A WAR IS RAGING and a sixteen year old Newbury Park girl Mia Stoutenborough is on the front line fighting for her life. In this battle doctors are filling her up another round of chemotherapy to start her immune system because she has Severe Aplastic Anemia. The process is very painful and stressful.
In the trenches the Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge #2477 “Angels For Mia “ is in the fray fighting with her the only way they can, by raising money to help with the expenses. They donated 41 pts. of blood and had 101 bone marrow volunteers signed the Bone Marrow Registry.
On Sat. Oct. 31st the Lodge hosted a Halloween Party with all the proceeds going to help fight this dreaded enemy that picks on the innocent as wars always do. The entertainment was donated and provided by One Last Dance and thanks to the following there were several donees of $100 or more each that did not attend: Peterson’s Heating and Air Conditioning, Du All Sheet Metal, Azar’s Sports Bar, Greg Metzgus, Robert MacFarlane, Corinne Richeson, Rick Herrera from the recycling proceeds, PERs for Tri Tip Sandwiches, El Konejo Kampers for the Haunted House, Junkyard Café and Calabasas Marmalade Café for Raffle Prizes. We also collected another 15 Bone Marrow Registry kits.
Fifty Five ghosts, witches, goblins and ogres showed up and cast their spells and worked their magic on her behalf. As the bewitching hour arrived a total of $5,097 dollars was earned for her. Spearheading this charity was John and Cherri Peterson with food, games of chance and raffles. As wars often rage participants often turn to levity and dance to ease the pain of war and so did the Elks on this Halloween night trying to ease the pain of a 16 year old who is fighting for her life.
