National Services Sign

Among the many activities tonight at the Cal-Vets birthday celebration (including the ever popular karaoke) we will be mounting a new sign in show of the Elks motto “So long as there are veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them”

The sign was commissioned by National Service Committee Chair Carl Lanterman and designed by Public Relations Chair Paul Wagner.

New Members April 2011

A great way to start off the new year is with new members!

Last night Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge was honored to welcome in new members JB Bre and Robert Teasdale.

JB is a familiar face around the lodge having worked hard to help raise funds for the Purple Pig as well as a number of other charities and serving up some fine food from our kitchen. Robert is new in every aspect so be sure to say hello and welcome them both when you see them!

Weekly Update April 4, 2011

Once again, it is a beautiful breezy day here in the Conejo Valley and a great way to start the week! As I shared last week we’ll be doing some changes to the website and now that our new year has officially begun, you’ll find pictures of your new chair officers with the intention of getting pictures of each of the officers – elected and appointed – up by the end of the month.

Last Wednesday there was a great presentation by Teresa Schachtel, Pediatric Vision Screener from CHEMPI sharing the many activities and stories that are a direct result of your donations to the California-Hawaii Elks Major Project or, as it is affectionately called, the Purple Pig. One success story is available for you to read by following this link http://www.chea-elks.org/Micsha.pdf. The story tells of a young girl, Mischa, diagnosed with cerebral palsy, left side hemiplegia, and a rare brain disorder, schizencephaly in May 1991. While the doctor suggested to her family that they might want to find a facility that could provide long-term care, as Mischa would always be dependent on others for her needs, her Mom found her way to the Elks – Coalinga Lodge #1613. The story shares Mischa’s success through high school including walking, cooking, driving, earning a letter in track and field for shot put, and making the high school honor roll with a 3.6 GPA. Additionally, I learned from Mischa that she will be graduating from college this year. This is a far cry from the outlook presented by the doctors in 1991. So remember the next time you’re asked to help, this is just one of thousands of lives touched by YOUR DONATIONS to the Purple Pig!

As ever, thank you again for being part of the world of Elkdom – your support makes us stronger and allows us to help others in ways that are hard to describe.

See you at the lodge!

Sincerely,
Kira Wagner

Step Up Night–Initiation

Initiation this month saw our officers move into their new positions as they delivered their respective charges to our newest members.

Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge saw 4 new members along with one transfer join our ranks. When you are down at the lodge be sure to look for John Puckett, Luis Reis, Rick O’Bryant, Brad Knupp and Frosty [Forrest] Godfrey (not pictured) and welcome them!

A special thank you to all of the members who have invited others to become a part of our order – without members we can not serve others.

Richard Goldner–Century Club Donation

Continuing to support CHEA Major Project, Richard Goldner,PDDGER, and CHEMPI Trustee receives his certificates for his donations from incoming District Chairman Terry Gicking.

2 Century Club

An ongoing option for all Elks is to guarantee a monthly donation – download this form to make arrangements.

A little more about the Century Club:

The Century Club is an exclusive club for Elks and their spouses or friends of the Elks who donate $100 to the Century Club. This is done either through the Lodge or directly to the California-Hawaii Elks Major Project, Inc.

An online donation can be made at CHEA website or a check can be sent to the CHEMPI office in Fresno (5450 E. Lamona Avenue, Fresno, CA 93727-2224) along with the members, spouse’s or friend of the Elks name and Lodge name and number. When received in Fresno, a certificate will be signed by the CHEA President and along with a special Century Club gold pin, sent to the Lodge for presentation. Cash or a check, along with the donor’s name and Lodge name and number can be given directly to any CHEMPI Trustee, the Association Piggy Bank Chairman or Vice Chairman, or the Lodge. They will forward this to Fresno for the donor.

A list of Century Club members will be published in “The California-Hawaii Elk” magazine. The intent of this program is for a member to belong to the Century Club by repeat donations.

PER Initiation Night

February traditionally sees the PER’s handle the initiation – this allows our incoming officers to focus on the dialogue for their next part and not confuse themselves and the candidate with the a possible laps in memory.

This year the PER’s not only conducted the initiation, they also conducted the entire meeting. A special thank you goes out to: BR L-R PER’s John Kelly, Terry Gicking, Jack Panczak, Greg Metzgus, Tom Ryder, Bill Sternberg, George Meehan,  Front: Catherine Koeritz and David Naccarato.
